Role Summary

The Lab Technologist/Technician will be a key member of our engineering team, contributing to the assembly of products, the development and operation of test equipment, and the overall management of our lab space. In this role, they will assemble products based on detailed build instructions and support the bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting of new builds.

They will collaborate closely with engineers to design, build, and operate custom test fixtures that enable ongoing development and validation of both existing and next-generation products. The Lab Technologist/Technician will maintain accurate records of production builds, test results, and equipment usage, while working proactively to improve assembly processes and testing procedures.

Additionally, they will oversee inventory and drive continuous improvements in the lab’s organization, functionality, and efficiency to ensure the lab space supports the needs of engineering and product development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems from engineering drawings, schematics, and build instructions.
  • Assist in designing, building, and operating custom test fixtures and test equipment.
  • Conduct functional tests, data collection, and troubleshooting on prototypes and production units to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Provide feedback to the engineering team to improve assembly processes for efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain clear, accurate records of assembly steps and test results.
  • Organize and maintain the lab space, tools, and equipment.
  • Manage inventory of components for production products, consumables, and test components.
  • Support test campaigns for development of new hardware and products.
  • Support demonstration campaigns for clients.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, a related field, or suitable equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in an engineering lab or manufacturing/test environment.
  • Experience with soldering, crimping, and mechanical assembly.
  • Able to manage tasks independently using tools like Jira and documenting technical processes.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

Nice-to-have

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • SMD inspection and rework on high density PCB’s
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as python and bash.
  • Familiarity with the Linux operating system such as Ubuntu.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other lab test equipment.
  • Experience with environmental or life-cycle testing (thermal, vibration, etc.).
  • Experience with automated test tools and functional testing of embedded products.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and ISO standards
  • Knowledge of radar systems and the analysis of radar data.
  • Class 5 Drivers Licence

 

Remuneration

Salary dependent on experience. aiRadar considers various factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific specialized knowledge, skills, and proficiency.

Position Time Type

This is a full-time position. Work will be in office at our Burnaby lab.
